Title: Hygiene Promoters
Ref: HP-CWP-09-2016.
Location: Gaza Office.
Duration: 3 months – part time
About the project:
Islamic Relief will implement project of “Improving public health and hygiene practices for female-headed households and Affected Kindergartens in Gaza Strip”
The project will improve the access to drinkable water and enhance hygiene behaviors inside targeted 100 female-headed households and 25 kindergartens at northern area in Gaza Strip by providing them with drinking water desalination units. In addition, the women at households and children at kindergartens will receive public environmental awareness on water, health, and hygiene.
The awareness activities will be based on findings of a baseline KAP survey (investigating prevailing knowledge, attitude and practices), which will help to prioritize main hygiene messages to be disseminated during the sessions, such as personal hygiene, water hygiene, hand washing, environmental hygiene, diarrhoea prevention and waste handling. Moreover, hygiene kits (for hand washing, teeth cleaning and hair and skin cleaning) will be distributed in conjunction with hygiene education sessions for target households.
Main Duties of Hygiene Promoters:
- Responsible for filed visiting of orphans houses and kindergartens.
- Responsible for delivering hygiene promotion sessions – such as group sessions with women, children or other target groups.
- Responsible for delivering hygiene promotion activities for children – through fun interactive activities that communicate key messages and encourage improvements in hygiene-related behavior.
- Hygiene Promoters are outreach representatives of IRPAL at all times and responsible for representing IRPAL appropriately to the community.
- The Hygiene Promoters are responsible for undertaking structured research and assessment of hygiene-related issues in the target community to promote behavior change effectively.
- Responsible for proposing creative and innovative ideas in how to deliver key hygiene messages and influence positively the community’s knowledge, awareness, attitude or behavior related to health and hygiene.
- Responsible for preparing success stories related to health and hygiene, and preparing monthly reports.
Candidates must possess the following competencies:
- A university degree in education, health, environment or other related field.
- Two years of experience in implementing health and hygiene projects, working with children, preferably in International NGOs
- Very Good English language.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload, and meet deadlines.
- Respectful and appropriate attitude towards the community.
- Ability and willingness to work in physically challenging field conditions
- Ability to contribute as team member, and working collaboratively with colleagues.
- Proficiency in using computer applications, including Excel, MS power point, and MS Word
- Commitment to IRPAL values.
