Education

Islamic Relief has been doing successful interventions to enhance education access and quality for the community in the Gaza Strip. To do this, Islamic Relief worked closely in coordination with the Ministry of Education on three main streams;

  1. Developing the physical environment of schools and kindergartens as Islamic Relief accomplished building, furnishing and equipping new schools. Also,  new classrooms were added to other schools, also innovation and creation clubs were established at several schools. Islamic Relief participated in improving the physical environment in many others by providing safe and clean drinking water, doing rehabilitation works, furnishing and equipping, also, health and hygiene awareness is provided to students.
  2. Building and developing staffs’ capacities as well as the whole system as Islamic Relief has been doing intensive efforts to develop capacities, skills and knowledge of working staff at schools and kindergartens.
  3. Creating and developing a unified framework for curriculum that participates to building a strong and capable generation. The unified comprehensive curricula utilize innovative and active learning resources where children can experience life-changing education and exhibit their talents and ambitions.

Child Protection

We are keen to make children of the Gaza Strip able to realize their rights to personal dignity, and take all reasonable measures to minimize the risk of harm to children’s welfare. We realize the suffering that children are witnessing and going through in the Gaza Strip and we do our best to mitigate its effects and teach children how to confront these difficulties.

Where there are concerns about a child’s welfare, Islamic Relief is implementing several psycho-social interventions that aim at improving and synchronizing service standards provided to children through; establishing partnerships with strong local CBOs and working with them closely to improve the quality of the provided services, also by creating a coordination  and cooperation channel with schools and  counselors.

Islamic Relief considers psycho-social support to children as an integral factor of the educational process to build decent and well prepared good citizens. We believe it is very important to start very early and to take care of the child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral development throughout our interventions in early and basic education.

We focus on good nutrition to maintain the physical and mental health of the child. We also consider making the life much easier for children with disabilities. It is not only about provision of hearing and visual aids, and mobility restriction assistive devices. It is also about improving lives of children with autism, down syndrome and thalassemia by supporting CBOs working for them.
