Islamic Relief launches a new study on the reality of the most vulnerable communities in the Gaza Strip

Islamic Relief Palestine, in collaboration with a number of partner institutions, has prepared a detailed study entitled “A study of the most vulnerable communities in the Gaza Strip 2017-2018” which aims to identify the reality of the fragile communities.

The study focused on five main sectors: economic, environmental, education, health and protection.

The Country Director of the Islamic Relief Office in Palestine Eng. Muneeb Abu Ghazala said “In the Gaza Strip, there are 270 population localities, all of which are vulnerable. The study revealed that 116 of these localities suffering from vulnerability of above-medium severity”. This study comes within the efforts of Islamic Relief to identify the local communities, assess their needs and work to alleviate their poverty.

Mr. Abu Ghazala said “Among the most important findings of the study, 68.5% of households are below the poverty line, 87% of households lack access to safe drinking water, 76.7% have restricted access to education services, 61.2% Of households lack access to sanitation services”

“It took about one year working on the study in cooperation with partners,” he said. “The study is a part of Islamic Relief efforts to contribute to improving the living conditions of families and more vulnerable groups in the Gaza Strip.” He concluded.
