Starting the implementation of Ramadan Project for 5932 beneficiaries in the Gaza Strip

The Islamic Relief Palestine has started implementing the project for Ramadan 2016. The expected impact for this project is that families who are normally suffering poor living conditions and food insecurity will have nutritious wholesome meals for their fasting. The main activity is distribution of food vouchers to 5932 poor families that include more than 35.000 members.

Rami Mahani, director of humanitarian programs, said, “As in previous years, Islamic Relief is keen to alleviate the daily suffering of the poorest families in Gaza Strip in procuring essential food items through providing the food aid in Ramadan that will further improve their food security. The beneficiaries of the projects are the hardest hit by the severe economic and social deterioration in the Gaza Strip for the last decades.

He continued, “We make regular improvements to the criteria and processes we use in order to ensure the high quality and appropriateness of our services to the needs of project’s beneficiaries, as well as the service delivery in a way that respect their dignity. For the second year in a row, we distribute food vouchers to beneficiaries which give them the freedom of choice in purchasing the food they need themselves from the distribution centers.”

He assured” this year; the intervention will be in the areas of Rafah, North Gaza and Gaza City. The target areas and beneficiaries were selected in a transparent fair manner, and based upon a range of complex clear criteria including the rate of food insecurity in the various areas in addition to the number of displaced people. The official reports indicate that rates of food insecurity were substantially higher in Rafah (54%), in North Gaza (49%) and then in Gaza governorate at (48%)”.
