As a contribution to the campaign “Orange Days”
Islamic Relief Palestine launches special events for the global campaign against Gender-Based Violence
Islamic Relief Palestine in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Center launched several activities for the global campaign against gender-based violence (Our Orange Days/16 Days Campaign) within the framework of the project “Supporting Livelihoods of Conflict-Affected People in Gaza Strip” which is funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
The campaign starts with designing an orange-colored petition to get the thumb prints and signatures of invitees on it believing in the importance of such campaigns to raise the level of awareness on this issue.
“We are here today to reaffirm the importance of this issue, which has become the fulcrum for effective actions at the global level to stop and prevent all kinds of violence against women, as it is a violation of women’s rights” the project coordinator, Saha Abu Ghazala, said.
The Orange Days Campaign will include a number of activities including a tweeting session on gender concepts and integration, two radio episodes in cooperation with local radio, radio spot-broadcasts, text messages via smartphones and a short film shedding the light one of the issues related to gender-based violence.
It is worth mentioning that this event is part of an awareness campaign that also includes the implementation of 15 awareness workshops targeting more than 500 of the project beneficiaries. The workshops include awareness sessions on gender-based violence, human rights and the integration of vulnerable groups for effective access to equal rights and positive roles in their society; and therefore, for effective humanitarian response and application of basic human standards and meaningful contribution to sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly with regard to gender equity.
