While holding her new medical glasses in her hands, Malak ,11 years old girl, says, “I will always be the first one who will write answers, no one of my classmates could beat me.”

Malak and her four siblings have received eyeglasses from Islamic Relief through the Social Safety Net project for the most vulnerable, “Urgent Medical Support.” Her two sisters and an older brother also got hearing aids as well.

Malak says “I am one of the best students at class, but in the last year I wasn’t able to be within this elite not as a result of carelessness, but because I was not able to see well what was written on the board and wrote it incorrectly”.

“I used to suffer from a severe headache. Last year, my school carried out vision tests for all students, and based on the result, I knew that I need to wear glasses,” she says.

“I informed my mother that I need to wear eyeglasses, but unfortunately we were unable to purchase it, as it’s considered expensive according to our income. In addition to that, I am not the only member in my family who need glasses,” she added.

Thanks Allah I am very happy with the glasses because I chose the frame myself, and probably if I didn’t have the opportunity to choose it myself I wouldn’t wear it,” she says.

She concludes “I will keep it properly and not let anyone to play with it to avoid the possibility of breaking,” .  and about her dream, she says, “When I grow up, I hope to become a botanist.”

In sign language, her 21-year-old sister, Yasmine, says, “Thank you very much. Now, I’m capable to hear loud sounds like cars on the street, and this will not expose me to car accidents, as happened with my sister Aya during the previous year.”

“When I was a little girl, I used to have a hearing aid, but it was broken and since then, I haven’t had any other hearing aid for long many years.”

She continues “I also got new eyeglasses! Thank you Islamic Relief that you have made my life easier  and thanks for all its donors.”

Yasmin has just got her bachelor degree in computer science at the university, hoping that she can get a job opportunity in near future, by which she will buy clothes and food needed for her and her family.

Aya ,16 years old, also benefited from the Islamic Relief project, says, “People with disabilities have a lot of aspirations and hopes, but they are neglected. I am glad that my brothers and I have found someone who cares about us and our suffering and provided us with the medical assistance we need.”

She continued, “I did not expect that I would get medical glasses as well as hearing aids! Thanks Allah as  my happiness is indescribable.”

In the last year, I suffered a lot when I had a car accident as I was incapable to hear its sound, and based on this accident I became afraid to go outside to the street.”

She concludes “Now I will be able to live in a better way, and when my mom calls me, I will turn around quickly,”

The family of Aya, Malak, and Yasmin live in a dilapidated two-room house which is in need of rehabilitation to make it safer for them. The family’s difficult economic circumstances, the illness of their father, and his unemployment status made the simple basic needs of the family dreams that are difficult to obtain!
