A Study Sheds Light on Poor Families in the Gaza Strip by Islamic Relief
Islamic Relief- Palestine publishes a new study entitled “Poor Families in Focus- Gaza Strip” in a celebration with the attendance of social, humanitarian as well as international organizations working in the Gaza Strip.
The director of Islamic Relief- Palestine field office (IRPAL), Eng. Muneeb Abu Ghazaleh, said: “this study provides necessary data that help IRPAL to put and design adequate local interventions to the families living in the Gaza Strip. The study also provides data for economic and social conditions for more than 3000 families.”
He also explained that 21% of the families live in dilapidated houses with very bad living conditions. 48% Breadwinners of the families suffer from chronic illnesses; 69% of the families’ supporters are jobless. The study also finds out that 92% of the families usually go into debts in order to secure their basic and humanitarian needs.
The study comes up with a series of recommendations namely the importance of improving the efficiency of poverty reduction programmes through the following: targeting the vulnerable areas, targeting the most deprived and vulnerable families, building the capacities of members of the poor families, reinforcing coordination among partners and encouraging self-employment initiatives.
