Carrying out Social Safety Net Project for 400 families in the Gaza Strip

Islamic Relief Palestine initiated on 29 June, 2016, Social Safety Net Project that targets 400 families in the Strip in order to enhance their living conditions and alleviate their suffering.

Soha Abu Ghazalah, Project Coordinator, said that Islamic Relief major purpose beyond implementing this project is to assist needy families that live in the marginalized areas in Gaza and that suffer from deteriorating economic and social conditions.

The selection of these families is not randomly; field visits had been done. They have been chosen according to the following conditions: large number of family members, existence of ill or disabled members in the family, bad house condition.

She added that” the project successfully achieves its aims in the evidence that it provides poor families with their needs including: food parcels, social and psychological support along with health and educational services.
In addition, each family will be tested alone to be provided with its needs according to its living condition. The project also aims to empower institutions of the civil society to alleviate poverty via training courses and logistic support”.

She continued” We achieved the first phase of the project that includes distributing food coupons. Families had the right to choose food items according to their needs. 169 families received their food coupons while the rest will have theirs in the coming days”.

It is worth mentioning that the project duration is 18 months during which families social and living conditions will be followed up to make sure that there is an improvement in its conditions. This project is carried out for the second time in which the same project was implemented the last year and included 277 families in the Strip.
