Omar Looking for a Stable Life
Omar Abu Baker is 30- year- old from Al- Mishal area on the cost of Gaza city’s sea. Omar devotes his time in fishing to provide livelihood for his family which consists of 13 members. Each time Omar throw his net, dreams full his mind regarding a better future for himself and his family as well.
“My family severely affected by the economic situation in the Gaza Strip. I spend most of my life jobless without an income source which made me unable to provide my family’s needs and expenses”, said Omar.
Disparately, Omar added “my mother and brothers are patients and they are in serious need for medicine and treatment. Now, I’m able to provide whatever they may need after I got a temporal job opportunity from the Islamic Relief”.
When talking about his work in one of the projects provided by the Islamic Relief, Omar joyfully said” I did not believe myself when they called and told me that I got a temporal job opportunity”
Omar Abu Baker is one of the beneficiaries from emergency employment project implemented by the Islamic Relief in cooperation with the Swedish Agency for Development (SIDA).
Omar explained the reason beyond being happy after receiving a temporary job opportunity by saying “I wish I could find a permanent job to provide the needs of my brothers and my home expenses “.
Silence filled the place when he said, “I do not know how to provide the expenses of my family after finishing this project”. He continued, “I wish that this project could last for a longer period”.
Regarding his work, Omar says “fishing is very tiring but it is a profession in which we inherited from our father. In spite of all dangers I face when fishing, I love this profession”
Omar thanked the Islamic Relief and the Swedish Agency for Development “SIDA” for providing job opportunity for him, “I thank all those in charge of the project because it filled me with hope to live decently and helped me to provide my family expenses.”
Omar concluded his speech hoping the Islamic Relief to improve his work and living conditions when saying, “My dream is to be helped by the Islamic Relief to get on a boat for fishing so that I can work continuously to provide the need of my family; I hope to find a permanent job”.
